Which Sillery?

There are two significant places called Sillery - one in France and one in Canada. Just recently, I also found a small beach in England also called Sillery. When more information is available, I will include this too. For now, I can tell you it is near Barnstable on the North Devon coast.

Sillery, France is the origin of the name and where we believe the family itself came from. It still exists today although, to my knowledge, no-one with that name still lives there. It seems probable that many of our family left the area in haste as 'refugees', part of the forced relocation of Huguenots to Ireland in the mid 17c.

Sillerys start appearing in County Meath and Louth at around mid 17c, where some stayed up to the late 20c.

Sillery, Quebec was one of the first settlements in Canada, and was the first Indian reservation in Canada (17c). It is currently a sought after residential suburb of Quebec city. There appears to have been no-one with the name Sillery, Sallery or Sellery ever living there.
